Welcome!

Springs of Peace is a grass-roots initiative to improve access to clean and potable water for the community in Jjongoza in Rakai District, Uganda and a localised response to the wide-spread non-compliance of States and non-State actors, particularly businesses, with their obligations to uphold and implement the right to water.

Through generous donations and support in 2012, Springs of Peace raised $20,000 to build a minimum of 20 rainwater harvesting tanks in Jjongoza village to collect the rains that fall six months out of the year in this region. Currently, Springs of Peace is working with the Jjongoza Rotary Community Corps to implement this project. Read more about our planning here and latest updates here.

When asked about what impact this will have for the people in Jjongoza, 69-year old community member Emmanuel Lubowa said:

“Our current open water source in a distance of approx 1.5 km usually shared with animals like cattle leaves us with no option other than investing a lot of energy in water decontaminating processes like filtering and boiling to make it reasonably safe. Springs of Peace will privilege us to have reliable protected water sources in short distances.”
